Oh the hate...

The post below this is something I have been thinking about a lot lately. I was at Seattle's Folklife festival this past weekend and, as always, there were the people with the signs threatening the heathens and sinners hell and damnation if they did not turn to Christ. They were also talking to (or at) people about a movement to get a referendum on the ballot to repeal the gay rights law passed last year. This abhorrent law entitles gay folks to do crazy things like have a job, rent an apartment, buy a house, get medical care, etc, without having to fear that their orientation could get these things taken away. How un-Christian!! People were coming up to them and arguing; I didn't bother. I get a bit incoherent when I get really angry.
I am tired of the world getting this one-sided view of Christianity. There are plenty of church bodies that support equal rights for GLBT folk. They, however, do not make good news. I think it's time we make good news. I'm going to try to get friends together to wear sandwich boards that say things like, "God loves you all," make pamphlets about God's loving grace and sing Kum-Ba-Ya if I have to. I will not, however, sing Pharoh, Pharoh. I hate that damn song. Let's make a movement to spread the love and neutralize the hate. Who's with me? Anyone want to come out for Hempfest?

I think I'm gonna be sick....

Any wonder that Xianity gets such a bad rap among "sensible" people?

Geesh.

Community

It is easiest to define ourselves by identifying that which we are not.

That's why building a wall along the border appeals so strongly to those individuals who also drive around with American flags on their vehicles. If we can keep out those who are "Not Like Us" then only those "Like Us" are left.

We have to actively work to be inclusive with our communities. We are called to this work, but, dammit, it's HARD.
